How do you get from Blackburn to Makkah?

Direct Saudia or one stop: which flight suits you?

Saudia’s direct Umrah flights from Manchester Airport reach Jeddah in approx. 6.5 hours with no connection to manage in ihram, which suits elderly parents, young children and first-timers. One-stop flights via Istanbul, Doha or Dubai often cost less but add approx. 3 to 6 hours. No direct flights run from Manchester to Madinah.

When to enter Ihram on a flight from Manchester

Jeddah is inside the miqat boundary, so most scholars advise making your niyyah (intention) on board before the aircraft passes the miqat. Men usually change into ihram at home or at Manchester Airport; women wear their normal modest clothing. When the crew announce the miqat, make the niyyah and begin the talbiyah, or change during the stop on a one-stop flight. Scholars differ on details, so ask your imam.

Landing in Jeddah and the coach to Makkah

At King Abdulaziz International Airport, immigration, baggage and meeting your transfer take approx. 1 to 2 hours on busy nights, then the coach to Makkah takes approx. 1.5 to 2 hours, including a checkpoint. If you’re exhausted, rest at the hotel first; you stay in ihram until your Umrah is complete.

Makkah to Madinah: how the transfer works

After your Makkah nights, a coach takes you approx. 450 km to your Madinah hotel, approx. 5 to 6 hours with a rest stop. Our packages use coach transfers only; we don’t sell Haramain train tickets. For the journey home, you either coach back to Jeddah or fly from Madinah’s Prince Mohammad bin Abdulaziz Airport (MED) with a connection, as shown on your quote. On Saudia you can check in one sealed 5-litre Zamzam bottle from Jeddah or Madinah airport; other airlines vary.

When is the cheapest time to go, and when is it busiest?

The cheapest time for Umrah from Blackburn is usually term-time autumn, from October to early December 2026. The Christmas break falls in Rajab 1448, one of the four sacred months, and with Easter closed in 2027, it’s the longest usable school break before summer. Ramadan 2027 from Blackburn: dates, demand and lead time

Ramadan 1448 is expected to begin around 8 February 2027, subject to moon sighting, with Eid al-Fitr around 9 March. The February half-term covers the early days of Ramadan, while the last ten nights (from approx. 27 February) fall in term time. Easter 2027 and the pre-Hajj cut-off

Please don’t plan Umrah around Easter 2027. Under the Ministry of Hajj and Umrah’s 1448 AH calendar, the last day for issuing Umrah visas is 9 March 2027; Umrah pilgrims must enter Saudi Arabia by 23 March, and everyone must leave by 7 April. The Hajj closure and the June 2027 reopening

Umrah then pauses while Saudi Arabia prepares for Hajj 1448, expected around 14 to 19 May 2027. In 2026, the new season reopened on 31 May, so expect visas to restart around 20 May 2027, with June, around the start of Muharram 1449, the first realistic month to travel.

Summer 2027: heat and availability

The summer holidays (22 July to 31 August 2027) suit families with older children, but Makkah regularly passes 40°C in the afternoon. A shorter walk matters more in these months, and many pilgrims perform Tawaf late at night when it’s cooler. Carry an umbrella for shade and refill from the Zamzam coolers placed throughout Masjid al-Haram.

What do UK pilgrims need before travelling in 2026?

UK pilgrims need a passport valid for at least six months, a Saudi ETA or another valid visa, an Umrah permit booked through Nusuk and a vaccination certificate dated at least 10 days before arrival. Women aged 18 and over can travel without a mahram. We give Nusuk guidance at every stage, from registration to your Rawdah permit.

The Saudi ETA: what changed on 1 July 2026

Since 1 July 2026, British passport holders use the Saudi Electronic Travel Authorisation (ETA) instead of the old Electronic Visa Waiver (EVW). It allows multiple entries, stays of up to 180 days a year and Umrah outside the Hajj season. Apply only through the official KSA Visa portal. Anyone in your group on a non-UK passport needs a different route, so tell us early; our Umrah visa guide explains the options.

Nusuk: registration, permits and booking the Rawdah

Nusuk is Saudi Arabia’s official Umrah platform. Your hotel and transport bookings are registered on it, and every pilgrim needs an Umrah permit in the Nusuk app. Visiting the Rawdah in Masjid an-Nabawi needs a free Nusuk permit too, limited to once every 365 days per person, at separate times for men and women. Slots go quickly, so we help you set up the app before you fly.

MenACWY vaccination: the 10-day rule

Saudi Arabia requires Umrah pilgrims, including children, to have the MenACWY vaccine at least 10 days before arrival. A conjugate vaccine counts for five years, so a school dose from years ago probably won’t. Ask the clinic to name the vaccine type on your certificate, or it counts for three years only. Pharmacy travel clinics around Blackburn offer it privately.

Can women perform Umrah from Blackburn without a mahram?

What ATOL 10416 covers, and what it doesn't

ATOL protection applies to flight-inclusive bookings and only against the company’s financial failure. If that happened, you’d get your money back or, if you were already abroad, be able to finish your trip or get home. It doesn’t cover hotel-only bookings, missed flights, illness or changes to Saudi entry rules, which is why we recommend travel insurance. Check that everything you booked appears on your ATOL Certificate.
